Brooke was sold

Brooke’s road to ownership is unique. After college, she became a Customer Service Representative for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK. While looking for a job to match her degree, the culture of the company sucked her in (in a good way). The fun and dynamic environment fit her lifestyle and she quickly decided TWO MEN AND A TRUCK could be her career.

She did her research to find out:

Impressed with what she learned, she took a few minutes and requested more information, just like you can do by clicking here.

EXISTING BUSINESS FOR A NEW OWNER

The opportunity presented itself for Brooke to take over an existing market, but it was still very scary for her. She had some of the same concerns you may have:

  • What if I can’t do this?
  • What if I don’t make any money?

Coming into an existing market, she had assurances with the performance. But as confident as she was in the location as well as the relationships she built with Home Office and other franchisees, she signed a 6-month rental agreement for an apartment in the area. She was too nervous to commit for longer as she felt in the back of her head she may have to change directions.

It was time for her to dig in and put her great work ethic to the test.

HIT THE GROUND RUNNING

By taking over an existing location, Brooke walked in on “opening day” to her phones ringing, moves happening, and revenue on the schedule. All she had to do was keep the momentum going and improve the quality of service being offered.

She re-interviewed the entire staff and set her expectations as the new 20-something year old female owner, which put her in a unique position to manage and build her own moving company.

LIFE IS GOOD

Things were really taking off. With 8-9 trucks running consistently and revenue increasing, it was time for a larger office and more staff. Brooke made the decision that it was time to hire her first office manager.

With the right staff in place and her own dedication, Brooke made the franchise her own and secured a very stable income. Brooke and her husband finally purchased a home in the area.

Brooke says, “TWO MEN AND A TRUCK was a very good financial investment. We quickly became interested in purchasing other marketing areas in the future.”

MORE TRUCKS, MORE STATES

Fast-forward to year 4 and Brooke’s business took on a whole new dimension! They moved to a new office location with onsite parking, operated more trucks, and had opened up another location in another state.

With business doing well, Brooke relied on the franchise network for advice on managing multiple locations from others who were already doing it.

The great positive work environment Brooke was able to create had a significant benefit to her team, so much so that the majority of the original staff remained avoiding turnover and saving money.

Brooke says, “The entire team knew they were coming to work every day to be a part of the best moving company in town.”

THIS BUSINESS IS ME

Brooke’s business is her career, her investment, her retirement plan, and her life.

“I can't quit buying these things! When I get to a point of comfort with one, I jump head first into a new one. I am young though, and not thinking about retirement at this stage of my life. I could very easily let staff run things, but I enjoy coming to work everyday. I think that says a lot.”

Brooke currently owns 4 locations and has no plans of stopping.

Oh, and that college degree she received? Graphic design. Most of her business know how has been self-taught or learned utilizing the resources available through the Franchise system.

With a great work ethic and dedication, Brooke has created a skill of managing people and turned it into a very prosperous life.

See What Ownership Looks Like

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® is the first—and largest—local moving franchise in the United States. We’ve been refining home and business moving for more than two decades. In the process, one of the most profitable franchise systems around was created; one that has produced world-class entrepreneurs like Brooke Wilson and Tim Lightner.

Meet Brooke & Tim

Brooke and Tim used to be just like you. Both were looking for a better life - one that rewarded their ambition, effort, and judgment. Both found TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®. That’s where their paths diverged. Brooke opened multiple locations, while Tim chose to grow a single location.

Follow Brooke and Tim. Learn what it’s like to go from living as an ordinary person to a successful entrepreneur and business owner.

TIM HAD QUESTIONS

When he began, Tim had a couple very basic questions:

Impressed with what he learned, Tim made the very first step: he requested more information, just like you can do by clicking here.

TIM WAS READY TO BEGIN

Tim knew he wanted to be a business owner from an early age. When he learned more about TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, there were several points that suggested this was the business for him:

  • No special degree or skill required.
  • No product to sell
  • No complex billing system
  • He wasn’t on his own

Tim knew he had two important skills to help him succeed: he was organized and he could manage people. So he made up his mind, and became the official TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchisee of Madison, WI.

TIM WAS ROLLING, LITERALLY

In just 90 days, he was in business. Tim and his team had completed training at headquarters in Lansing, MI and had been open all summer. Tim focused on two tasks: building ties between his business and the community and providing the best customer experience possible.

Business was actually much better than Tim’s original projections, and just 3 months in, he was already adding trucks. Tim says, “In some ways, it was very overwhelming! Yes, we were working long hours, but it was a great problem to have!”

GROWING, CAREFULLY.

At one year, Tim’s business was growing. He added another truck to his fleet and focused on new office space to meet the strong demand.

He relied on the franchise network to give him advice, so that he’d avoid major mistakes that would cost the business time and money.

He says, “After my first annual meeting, it was very clear to me I was in a partnership. As a young business owner, that’s exactly why the franchise model worked well for me. I had great work ethic but no business experience.”

LESS IN, MORE OUT

Fast-forward to year 4 and Tim’s business had really evolved. He had a full time manager for the movers and drivers, as well as a full time Customer Service Representative.

What did that mean for Tim? Working fewer hours! Better still, his business was continuing to grow. “Sure, working less was great,” Tim says, “but I really enjoyed the income we were making!”

THIS BUSINESS IS ME

Tim’s business is his career, his retirement plan, his life. But most importantly for Tim, it’s an adventure. Being a business owner has given Tim the unique opportunity to not only travel the entire US, but also Mexico and Europe on behalf of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK.

“It’s one of the best things to ever happen to me. Some of the best relationships I have ever had are in this TWO MEN AND A TRUCK family. And that’s precisely how I feel about them. They are my family. And like any family, this one continues to grow and get better!”

Tim describes his stress level this way: “Pretty darned low. I work about 20 hours a week on—not in—my business and I love it.”
